SCRIPTURE
The
Bible is the inspired written word of God consisting of the Old and New
Testaments. Scripture is the story of
God's creation and redemption of humankind; a history of salvation and
redemption. All Scripture is God
breathed (2 Timothy 3:16) and a useful guide for daily living. Jesus came to fulfill Scripture and the Law and
we are admonished to preach the word (2 Timothy 4:20 and to hold firm (Titus
1:9) and to stand firm in our belief (2 Thessalonians 2:13.)
SEEKING
Each
of us seeks a personal relationship with Jesus and we welcome all those who
seek to know more about Christ. We seek
a spiritual friendship and closeness not only to Jesus but all those in our
extended family. We seek to recognize
Jesus in all those we meet; we desire that they see Jesus in us also. We reach out to others as Christ did to all
persons.
CARING
We
welcome all people to St. Peter's Church and care for those in our midst as
well as those in the world. We reach
inward to those in any need as the hands of Christ--Helping Hands. We reach out to our community, region, nation
and world by means of strong Outreach programs.
Jesus commanded us to love one another as He loved us (John 13:34-35)
and to care for the least the last and the lost, (Matthew 25:40.) We are not to shut our eyes to the poor,
(Proverbs 21:13) and our "mission" is the same as Jesus spoke to
(Luke 4:18) echoing the words of Isaiah, (Isaiah 62:1.) James(James 2:17 and 26) speaks of faith and
works as companions; faith is expressed in deeds of action and without works,
faith is dead.
FAMILY
We
are an extended family of believers and passionately want people to discover
their gifts and be active in our parish family.
We welcome all as members of the Body of Christ (Romans 12:4) as the
body is one unit with many members (I Corinthians 12:12-13.) We are by our Baptism One Body, One Spirit in
One Lord (Ephesians 4:4.) As we are the
body, Christ is the head of the Body (Colossians 1:18.)
HOSPITALITY
We
welcome all who seek a place of comfort and acceptance, a place where each can
worship and serve as the varied gifts they have are manifest. Jesus
says in Matthew 11:28 that he welcomes all who "travail and are heavily
laden." He will give them rest and
share their burden. We are aware that in
entertaining strangers (Hebrews 13:2) we may be entertaining angels in our
midst.
