What we Believe
St. Peter's Church Foundation Statement
We believe Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior and in the Trinity, God the three persons, one substance.
We believe in Scripture, Tradition and Reason as the foundation of Anglicanism and Christianity.
Scripture as the inspired Word of God in the Old and New Testaments, containing all things necessary for salvation
Tradition as the faith and order of the church as faithfully handed down through the church for the last two thousand years – based in the truths of Holy Scripture.
Reason as the God-given ability to understand the truths of Holy Scripture and Tradition and to apply them in our daily lives.
We believe that in the essentials of the faith that there must be unity. In the non essentials there will be diversity and that in all things there will be charity (love).
We hold to the Chicago-Lambeth Quadrilateral of 1886-88 –The Book of Common Prayer, page 876-878
- The Holy Scripture of the Old and New Testaments, as “containing all things necessary to salvation,”and as being the rule and ultimate standard of faith. They are the revealed Word of God.
- The Apostles Creed as the Baptismal Symbol, and the Nicene Creed, as the sufficient statement of the Christian faith.
- The two Sacraments, ordained by Christ himself – Baptism and the Supper of the Lord – ministered with unfailing use of Christ’s words in Institution, and of the elements ordained by Him.
- The Historic Episcopate, locally adapted in the methods of its administration to the varying needs of the nations and peoples called by God into the Unity of the Church.
We believe that the Book of Common Prayer contains the theology, teachings, liturgy and instructions of this church.
